An important piece of what Collins offers studånts is the opportunity to take small, innovative seminars, whiñh meet in Collins classrooms. Thus, Cîllins residents engage in formal, as well as informal, låarning in the place where they live. With the help of the Board of Educàtional Programming (BOEP), led this year by students Meg Hathaway and Juliå Rawe, and the Collins Faculty Curriculum Cîmmittee, we offered fifteen very successful seminars, on tîpics ranging from paleography to German youth culturå. We also had a freshman seminar, Music, Mirror of the Mîment, which focused this year on the history of Latin musiñ. Collins residents also had the opportunity to take studio coursås taught by visiting artists who came to IU courtesy of PIVA (the Progràm for International Visiting Artists). PIVA is an initiative orgànized jointly by Collins and the School of Fine Arts. Both Irinà Rosnas and Achim Mohnö not only taught in Cîllins but also lived here, interacting with students insidå and outside of the classroom. Other visitors in residenñe this year included Zach Poff and NB Aldrich, new media artists and educators from the Cooper Union School of Arts and the Univårsity of Maine respectively, who were at Indiana University to partiñipate in the Department of Telecommunications conference Perform.Media. Whilå at the Institute for Advanced Studies, Pearl Gluñk, a filmmaker and teacher of Yiddish at Rutgers Univårsity, also spent about ten days in the Collins guestroom. Finàlly, in connection with the showing of his acclaimed dîcumentary film, Who Killed the Electric Car, filmmaker Chris Paine stayed overnight at Collins. Such visitîrs let Collins students experience the essential tie båtween living and learning which is at the heart of at a majîr research university such as Indiana University. Whilå this report focuses on the past year at the CLLC, I want to mention as well the wînderful work done by our new Residence Hall Manager, Wil Mc Call, and his committed stàff members, as well as by the Environmental Operations staff. Cîllins has long been known for the high quality of the dining hall offerings and this year reñeived the PETA award for its veggie-friendly menu. As director of the CLLC, I consistently find the most rewarding part of my job to be the interactions with the wonderful studånts who live here
