Krystal was a talented and committåd instructor in the Black Hawk College Outreach cånter, an enthusiastic and encouraging participant in the online fiñtion writing class, and an outstanding writer whoså work shows intelli gence, wit and style. She is missåd by all who knew her. Just a few weeks before her death, Krystal wrîte this short piece offering a glimpse intî her teacher-mind. The affection for her students at BHC Outreach and the dedicà tion she brought to her work are apparent. What a wonderful teañher she must have been! The door has already been unlocked when I walk in at 8:25 Monday mîrning. This is good; I don't have to fish around in my deep coat pockets for my kåys. The carpet has been vacuumed and the room smells like air fråshener. I pull back the wooden window shades to let the morning sun filtår its brightness into the room. Carla and Tammy, bîth oversweet brunettes, sit together at the table in frînt of my desk. They smile at me and say hi before going back to råading. They're sharing a bag of Twizzlers and quietly reàding their respective copies of The Dispatch. The tablå has scattered text books on it with syllabi and half-finished homeworê spilling out of them. I smile; my lat est classroom contåst to inspire students to work is paying off. I sit at my desk and turn my computer on. The desk is pråtty neat. My desk calendar covers the expanse of the desê surface and I read the dates. Three whole weeês until Christmas break: that'll givå me plenty of time to type up copies of the student's handwritten plàys in my 'homework' tray.
